Ten years of evolution of MDN !!

Mozilla proudly celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Mozilla Developer Network, one of the richest and also one of the few multilingual resources on the Web for documentation. It started in February 2005, when a small team dedicated to the open Web took DevEdge(Netscape’s developer materials) and set out to create an open, free, community-built online resource for all Web developers. Just a couple of months later, on 23 July, 2005 the original MDN wiki site launched and has evolved steadily ever since for the convenience and the benefit of its users.

Today, ten years later, not only has the amount of documentation grown – 34,500 documents and climbing – but also MDN’s global volunteer community is bigger than ever. Currently, MDN has more than 4 million users and over 1000 volunteer editors per month creating and translating documentation, sample code, tutorials and other learning resources for all open Web technologies, including CSS, HTML, JavaScript and everything that makes the open Web as rich and versatile as it is.

For a wide range of Web developers, from learners to hobbyists to full-time professionals, MDN provides useful explanations for coding practice. It aims to inspire ideas, encourage collaboration, innovation and ultimately, foster the growth of the open Web. Moreover, as the digital industry flourishes and the demand for coding skills at young age rises, the importance of well-organized resources like MDN grows exponentially. That is why in 2014 MDN started to feed and expand all its learning pages into a “Learn the Web” area for beginning web developers, including a web terminology glossary, which MDN’s technical writers and volunteers will continue to develop over the next years.
All these efforts, which would not be possible without the active MDN volunteer base, are being greatly acknowledged by developers from all over the world who would not be doing what they do without MDN – or at least not as good.
Currently, MDN has over 4 million users per month and more than 1000 volunteer editors per month, worldwide. In July 2015, MDN will celebrate its 10th anniversary, as the original MDN wiki site launched on 23 July, 2005.

How to see saved password in Mozilla Firefox?

How to see saved password in Mozilla Firefox?

When we browse different browsers, we keep on accessing various websites. With the same flow continuing both in home and at office, we tend to forget many such useful links and then try to bookmark them, similarly a sort of save password option can be kept on action too. At times, we miss keeping a track of the passwords that we assign to various websites. So we sort of start saving the passwords for further future use. Now the process being not that difficult to get the access back and retrieve the data of passwords, let’s take a deep look on how to manage the methods with few steps. Mozilla Firefox saved passwords backup, can be retrieved from such small exercises performed at the front end.

SuMo ‘Top 100 KB articles localized (global)’ Milestone Achieved and More!

SuMo ‘Top 100 KB articles localized (global)’ Milestone Achieved and More!

As per our announcement on June 13, we started the Global Top 100 KB Localization Milestone Sprint for bn-BD and today we successfully finished the sprint. Now all the global top 100 KB articles are localized again. (and there is lot more, keep reading)
When we started the sprint, the dashboard was 54% completed. We set a two week deadline to finish the sprint. Though at the last moment some articles jumped into top 100, we managed to finish the sprint before the deadline. All credit goes to our awesome contributors.
The main goal of the sprint was to achieve the ‘Top 100 KB Articles Localized (global)’ milestone. But After localizing that we noticed that there were only couple of articles left in top 100 Firefox KB. So we made that bar green too. On the process, we achieved another milestone. The ‘Top 50 KB Articles Localized (global)‘, ‘Top 20 KB Articles Localized (Firefox)‘, ‘Top 50 KB Articles Localized (Firefox)‘ milestones were automatically achieved with the Top 100 Global and Firefox KB Article milestones. We also completed the ‘100% of Templates Localized‘ and ‘Firefox FAQ Page Localized‘ milestones.

How To get Firefox Student Ambassador Open Badge?

Task-1:Apply through Registration form
At first let’s talk about the activities that we have before applying for an open badge. The first task is to register officially to the Mozilla base. That means you have to input your basic information into a Firefox student ambassador form. Here is the link:
Task-2: Share/Post the Registration form with Hashtags
This is very easy task. all you have to do is, get an account on Facebook/Twitter/Google+ & post about the program using the hash-tags (#Firefox #students #Mozilla) and provide the link to the FSA registration form. Remember the hash tags are very important and has to be the same as given above. Also provide the link to the registration form and post it to any of the accounts. I have accounts in all of them. besides Facebook, i suggest you to keep an account on tweeter and Google+ too. Trust me that would be much smoother and easier.
Task-3: Create/Join Firefox Club of your campus
You have to either create a Firefox Club or join a Firefox Club if there is already one located at your school. How to create a club?? simple!! gather as much software freak people as you can. ask the authority of your school to permit you to open this  Firefox club. Make sure you influence them and convince them well enough so that they approve your request with flying colors.
Task-4: Read and follow
This is the most important task;you have to become familiar with Mozilla. there are 5 steps which you have to complete being a Firefox student ambassador. I will talk about other steps later on in another post but task-3 is all about the step-1 out of the 5 steps. In step-1 we have 6 parts..
Part-1 says “Familiarize yourself with Mozilla and its community”. So you start watching the video in the link given: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mission/
Part-2: You read about the various ways in which you can contribute as a FSA. Here is the link to get involved: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/
Part-3: Read and know about the mozilla products. Here is the link: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/
Part-4: Read and try to learn about webmaker. Try doing any one of the projects following the link: https://webmaker.org/
Part-5: Read to know all about Mozilla support. the link is: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/get-involved
After completing all these parts of the 4 tasks, you are now ready to apply for the open badge. go to this link and fill up the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10IsyspUmaixL14IO-fUbuGByHX08-Rgdg5w5ShcEYvw/viewform
In this form, you have to write about what you have learnt about Firefox;you have to paste the link of the post that you have posted in Facebook/tweeter/Google+ [see in task-2]. you also have to paste the link of your Firefox club Facebook page. That’s it!! You have done it!!! Mozilla Corporation will send you the FSA open badge after viewing your details and verifying them.
